When your new A.H. Beard mattress arrives, you may notice a slight smell due to the new materials used. This is completely normal and will dissipate over time. Once the mattress is removed from its plastic packaging, place it in a well-ventilated room to air out. Please dispose of the packaging responsibly.
Getting to Know Your New Mattress
Your mattress needs time to adjust to its intended firmness. Initially, it will feel different as it conforms to your body and adapts to your sleeping style. This process may take several weeks, especially if you’ve switched to a different mattress type. It’s important to distinguish between “unfamiliar” and “uncomfortable” when breaking in a new mattress.
You may also notice that your mattress feels different from the one you tried in the store. Display models are often more settled due to frequent use. Additionally, your home base may differ from the one in the store, influencing comfort and support.
Some A.H. Beard mattresses feature luxurious comfort layers that cradle your body, potentially causing you to feel warmer. Firmer mattresses, with fewer layers, may feel cooler as they keep your body more elevated.
Caring for Your Mattress
With proper care, your A.H. Beard mattress can provide exceptional comfort and support for 7–10 years.
-
Use a Mattress Protector:
Always use a quality mattress protector to keep your mattress clean and fresh. This will also help maintain your guarantee. -
Breathing Space:
Allow your mattress to breathe by leaving the bedlinen turned back for a few hours, promoting air circulation. -
Rotate Regularly:
Rotate your mattress end-to-end each month to prevent uneven wear. Use the handles to assist with rotation, but avoid using them to carry the full weight of the mattress. -
Supportive Base:
Pair your mattress with a supportive base, such as A.H. Beard’s timber platform bases. Avoid using an old base with your new mattress, as they work together to provide comfort and support.- For Slatted Bases: Ensure slats are no more than 10cm apart, have a centre support rail, and are regularly rotated or replaced if they lose resilience.
- For Solid Bases: Ensure proper ventilation through holes in the panel.
- For Bases with Drawers: Limit drawer loads to 30kg to prevent damage.
Body Impressions
Over time, you may notice indentations where you sleep most often. These body impressions indicate that the comfort layers are adapting to your body shape. Softer mattresses are more prone to impressions.
To minimise this, rotate your mattress every two weeks during the first four months, then monthly. This helps evenly distribute the settling process.
Cleaning Your Mattress
- Vacuum Regularly: Use a soft upholstery attachment to remove dust and fluff.
- Avoid Moisture: Absorb spills immediately with a dry cloth or paper towels.
By following these guidelines, you’ll enjoy a comfortable and supportive sleep experience for years to come.
